Bryan 'Pop' Robson

Great viewing of the little man. What a player he was. Loved watching him play. So many of his goals were one touch finishes and the number of goals set up by Sir Trev was unbelievable.

Was one of the best finishers I ever saw, would be worth quite a bit these days, natural goal scoring instinct

Great little player............loved a comb-over too

Re: Bryan 'Pop' Robson
He just seemed to know where the ball would be played and would be there ready to meet it - it was almost as if having his name on the team sheet put us a goal up already.

Great player, my all time favourite striker, admired him when he was Newcastle and was "over the moon Brian" when he came to us

And you always knew in your heart that when he was one on one with the keeper he would ALWAYS score...we've not had that for a time in our squad

Will he be fit for the start of the season?

Re: Bryan 'Pop' Robson
Watching that video brought a massive lump to my throat, the old kits, normal white balls, Brian Moore, muddy pitches, supporting a team when it was fun rather than a chore

Can you actually believe they wanted to make the home kits with pale blue shorts this season ?, we are white shorts and white socks.

I fucking detest modern, soulless football, and owners that rip the soul out of your club

I remember when for a while they played brooking up front and Robson in midfield

I love the goal at 7:47 where Trev sets up Pop with a cheeky dummy (completely misses the ball and falls on his arse).

Best finisher I've ever seen.

A great finisher with a long career, perhaps a bit too long. I seem to remember he went off the boil towards the end.

Re: Bryan 'Pop' Robson
I read somewhere that he was the player Tony Cottee modelled his game on. Shame there's been few and far between since that did the same.

I read somewhere that he took ballet lessons to help with balance, it seemed to have worked well for him?

Re: Bryan 'Pop' Robson
Great player for us.

Here's a bit about the ballet connection -- I seem to remember Len Heppell was his father in law. Nice obituary for him:

Re: Bryan 'Pop' Robson
we could do with Pop Robsen now, aged about 24 yrs old.
right age to do the job( and a he would do a great job for us) with plenty of profit in him, for later.
